Americas Cardroom is not the largest poker site, but their popularity is rapidly increasing due to the recent shutdown of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to U.S. players. It is one of only a handful of poker rooms that remains open to Americans, who make a rather large part of the online poker market. Americas Cardroom joined the Winning Poker Network (WPN) in late 2011 after their acquisition of DoylesRoom. It is based in Cyprus and is certified by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
Americas Cardroom offers a weak selection of games, which include only Texas holdem, Omaha, and Omaha hi lo. While these are the most popular poker game variants, this is still likely one of the smallest game selections of any online poker room. Another downside to Americas Cardroom is the limited number of stakes available, which start at $0.05/$0.10 and top out at just $15/$30. Those who wish to risk less money by playing $0.01/$0.02 or $0.02/$0.04 will have to play elsewhere, as will high stakes players. Unfortunately at this point in time, Americas Cardroom does not have any rewards programs for its players.
Americas CardRoom Bonus
Everyone knows that all poker players love to make money. The only thing they love more is free money, which is why initial deposit bonuses are such a big attraction. Americas Cardroom offers a 100 % match bonus up to $1000 on your first deposit. The money will be awarded in increments of $1 for every 55 “Rank Points” from real money tournaments and cash games. The big plus here, is that the Americas Card Room bonus does not expire!! And luckily the bonus clears at a faster rate than at many other poker rooms.
Americas Cardroom also offers an occasional reload bonus. They are offered at various times throughout the year and can be as large as a 200 % match up to $200. You can also get $50 for yourself as well as $75 for a friend through the Refer a Friend Program.
In terms of software, Americas Cardroom is quite unique. The interface is completely 3D in an attempt to create a realistic poker experience. Unfortunately, this has been tried many times before and it has not worked very well so far. The tables are cluttered and the complex animation considerably slows down your computer, which is why you can only play up to 4 tables at the most. There is the option to play in 2D but, for some reason, this is not much better.
If you only have MAC computers, you are SOL. The only way you will be able to play at Americas Cardroom is if you own a PC. There is no Mac compatible software download, nor is there an instant play option in the web browser or any apps. The lobby is very messy and disorganized, which makes trying to find the right game pretty frustrating.
Americas Cardroom Competition
Honestly, the players at Americas Cardroom are horrible. A number of factors attract this softer competition, such as the presence of the online casino and the 3D gimmick. The small game selection and low table limit also cause more serious poker players to look elsewhere, leaving only the bad ones.
The Poker Tournaments
Unfortunately, things at Americas Cardroom do not get any better when looking at the tournaments that are available. Compared to just about every other site online, the tournaments at Americas Cardroom are limited and unexciting. The one upside is the fact that the few tournament players here are weak, so you have a better than average opportunity of placing in a money position.
The most intriguing tournaments here are the guaranteed tournaments. There are four guaranteed tournaments that run each week: the $2,000 Guaranteed that runs Monday through Friday, the $5,000 Guaranteed that runs each Wednesday, the $7,500 Guaranteed on Saturdays, and the $15,000 Guaranteed every Sunday.
There are also several other tournaments that run daily, ranging in buy in size from $1.10 to $130. Outside of the sit & go variety, only a few tournaments run each day though, so if you plan to play in one make sure you know exactly when it starts.
Summary of Americas CardRoom
Choosing an online poker room is a big decision. By making a deposit, you are entrusting the poker site with your money. You also are trusting that they will give you the most enjoyable poker experience possible. Although Americas Cardroom is one of the least impressive sites you will see, it will be interesting to see if that changes in the coming months following the U.S. crackdown on the Big Two, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.
