Patrick Antonius on the Upswing; Dwan on his way down

Patrik Antonius has not had a very successful year at the poker tables. He was down millions of dollars in just a few months this year but now he is on his way back up. The poker pro had lost about $3.6 million and now in just a few weeks the pro has seen a complete turn around and earned almost $4 million dollars.
This year has been nothing like last year for the poker pro. A constant at the Full Tilt Poker high stakes tables, Antonius earned almost $9 million last year at Full Tilt poker. Antonius participated in many of the largest hands of 2009 including a few with Isildur1.
But this year from January to mid March the pro was on a downward spiral. He lost around $3.6 million dollars. It was the largest drop for a poker player at any room online. It was almost $1.5 million more lost than Brian Townsend who was in second for the most losses at $2.14 million.
But around the middle of March the poker pro began to see a turnaround in his game play. The pro earned back his $3.6 million that he lost and then earned a profit of over $500,000. This is an amazing turnaround for any poker pro but Antonius is one of the best so it is not too surprising.
Now that Antonius is on the upswing it seems as though Tom Dwan has taken his place on the downswing. The two have been getting in more of their durrrr Challenge hands and Dwan managed to get a small victory.
The two have played about 1,608 hands which bring their challenge total to about 38,974. The duo had a few big pots take place and in the end it was Dwan who came out on top with about $30,000. This makes Antonius in the hole for the challenge at $1.8 million.
One monster pot was worth $367,000. Both fired at each other with raises and bets pre and post flop as the flop came K-3-2. The turn saw a Q and Dwan check raised all in with the $160,000 he had left holding K-K-10-2. Antonius held Q-8-7-3. A ten on the river gave Dwan the pot and took the majority of Antonius’s cash.
Another pot took place with over $300,000 up for grabs and this time it was Antonius who went all in on the flop of J-5-2 with A-4-A-3. Dwan called with A-3-8-9 and a Q on the turn changed nothing but the 6 o the river gave the pot to Antonius.
Dwan had been on a good run for most of the year until the past week when he competed against Phil Ivey and jungleman12. This resulted in a seven figure loss for the poker pro. Below is a list of top winners and losers at Full Tilt from May 3rd.

Ivey Loses Quarter Million Dollars from Tom Dwan
Poker television shows are very popular and they seem to come on every channel available. The most popular poker television show seems to be the High Stakes Poker Show which airs on the Game Show Network. This show sees top poker pros competing against one another and taking joy out of taking each other’s cash.
Such pros as Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan and Eli Elezra compete on the show and a great match up between Ivey and Dwan recently took place. The minimum buy-in at the High Stakes Poker Show is $200,000 in one recent hand Dwan took over $250,000 from Ivey in a pot worth over $650,000.
The final hand of the show came when Phil Laak, Elezra, Ivey, Dwan and Daniel Negreanu all started in pre-flop betting. Raises were made to $3,900 which led Dwan to raise the pot by $25,000. Dwan held 9-8 suited and everyone folded except Ivey who stayed in with his A-6 of diamonds.
When the flop came, Dwan had missed his draw. The flop showed ten diamonds, queen of clubs and king of diamonds. This gave Ivey a nut flush draw, a straight draw and the high card. Dwan came out with a bang putting $45,800 in the pot and Ivey with a good chance of winning the hand, called.
The turn showed a 3 of spades and $162,300 was in the pot. Neither Dwan nor Ivey hit their draw and Dwan continued betting. The poker pro pushed in $123,200, continuing his bluff against his fellow poker pro. Ivey thought for a moment and then decided to call.
The river card was a six of clubs which paired Ivey’s cards. The table was silent as both players were concentrating hard. Dwan placed yet another bet, this time $268,200, having nothing on the board. Ivey then requested a chip count from Dwan and Dwan replied kind of nervously.
Five minutes would pass, the whole time Ivey was thinking of what he should do. He was trying to read Dwan, but Dwan remained blank faced the whole time. The tension was thick as Laak remained silent though Negreanu decided to give his opinion. After three minutes, Ivey decided to fold his winning hand and Dwan took the pot, a total of $676,900.
Dwan and Ivey both are two of the best poker players in the world, but this time the win went to Dwan. Both poker players compete at Full Tilt Poker and play against each other quite often. They keep the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker and at the High Stakes Poker show very exciting. Fans love to see the very talented poker pros go head to head with massive pots in play.
It will be interesting to see if Ivey will be able to win back his loss from Dwan if they both appear on the High Stakes Poker Show again or if they decide on a rematch at the Full Tilt Poker High Stakes tables, either way, it will definitely be exciting.
2010 is a good year for Tom Dwan
Poker professional Tom “durrrr” Dwan has had a rough time at the tables over the last 12 months, seeing his bankroll go from being a healthy one to seeing it almost scrape the bottom of his wallet.
Seeing his bankroll take a hit over the recent months has meant that the professional has had to take a step back away from the high stake tables in order to regenerate some of his losses, most famously the funds that he lost to “Isildur1″ while the unknown was making a name for himself at the Full Tilt Poker tables.
The current month has been on of the opposite kind for the well known player, generating a string of high amount winnings in order to set him onto a $240,000 profit for the year so far.
2010 hasn’t been exactly what the player was hoping for though, entering into January with the same luck that he had been having during the previous year but an alteration to his playing style and the stakes that the player involves himself with has meant that he has been able to turn around his fortunes and so far is sat firmly in profit.
It seems that 2010 is a great year for more than just Dwan though, Llari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has also seen a good run of form begin with the turn of the year, so far raising his profits to $330,000.
Both players will be looking to keep the winning momentum running, allowing for a couple of slip ups should they experience them along the way.
