UK poker pro Stuart Rutter has won a GUKPT title after competing in the Coventry event. the twenty seven year old poker pro made his fourth run at a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour event and he managed to outlast the field to take down the win. Rutter had to beat Danny Toffel in heads up play to earn the win.
142 players competed in the event at the G Casino in Coventry. The tournament took three days to complete and the competition was definitely tough. Rutter was sponsored by the G Casino and he faced a tough final table which included such pros as Roberto Romanello, Jeff Kimber and Nick Wealthall.
In the end it would be Rutter who faced Banstead company director Danny Toffell in heads up play. Rutter was up in chips by six to one but Toffell was not going to give up easily. He held on for two hours before he would eventually be knocked out of the competition in second place. Toffell would lose the final hand when he went all in with pocket fours against Rutter’s pocket nines.
Rutter is a top poker pro and also a writer for the online news site Poker News. He commented on the win by stating: “This win is absolutely perfect timing coming just one week before I set off for Vegas and the WSOP. It gives me a great confidence boost which I always struggle for on the GUKPT having made three previous final tables and seeing them go wrong each time.”
The poker pro also had nice words for the staff involved in the event: “The tournament has been fantastically run throughout all three days and this is the perfect venue for this poker tour. Playing the final table on the stage in the show bar is an experience I’ll never forget. I’d also like to thank my sponsor gcasino.com, who have given me the opportunity to play in all the GUKPT main events this year.”
