Poker television shows are very popular and they seem to come on every channel available. The most popular poker television show seems to be the High Stakes Poker Show which airs on the Game Show Network. This show sees top poker pros competing against one another and taking joy out of taking each other’s cash.
Such pros as Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan and Eli Elezra compete on the show and a great match up between Ivey and Dwan recently took place. The minimum buy-in at the High Stakes Poker Show is $200,000 in one recent hand Dwan took over $250,000 from Ivey in a pot worth over $650,000.
The final hand of the show came when Phil Laak, Elezra, Ivey, Dwan and Daniel Negreanu all started in pre-flop betting. Raises were made to $3,900 which led Dwan to raise the pot by $25,000. Dwan held 9-8 suited and everyone folded except Ivey who stayed in with his A-6 of diamonds.
When the flop came, Dwan had missed his draw. The flop showed ten diamonds, queen of clubs and king of diamonds. This gave Ivey a nut flush draw, a straight draw and the high card. Dwan came out with a bang putting $45,800 in the pot and Ivey with a good chance of winning the hand, called.
The turn showed a 3 of spades and $162,300 was in the pot. Neither Dwan nor Ivey hit their draw and Dwan continued betting. The poker pro pushed in $123,200, continuing his bluff against his fellow poker pro. Ivey thought for a moment and then decided to call.
The river card was a six of clubs which paired Ivey’s cards. The table was silent as both players were concentrating hard. Dwan placed yet another bet, this time $268,200, having nothing on the board. Ivey then requested a chip count from Dwan and Dwan replied kind of nervously.
Five minutes would pass, the whole time Ivey was thinking of what he should do. He was trying to read Dwan, but Dwan remained blank faced the whole time. The tension was thick as Laak remained silent though Negreanu decided to give his opinion. After three minutes, Ivey decided to fold his winning hand and Dwan took the pot, a total of $676,900.
Dwan and Ivey both are two of the best poker players in the world, but this time the win went to Dwan. Both poker players compete at Full Tilt Poker and play against each other quite often. They keep the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker and at the High Stakes Poker show very exciting. Fans love to see the very talented poker pros go head to head with massive pots in play.
It will be interesting to see if Ivey will be able to win back his loss from Dwan if they both appear on the High Stakes Poker Show again or if they decide on a rematch at the Full Tilt Poker High Stakes tables, either way, it will definitely be exciting.
