PartyPoker Big Game IV Begins; Dusty Schmidt First Voted Out

April 13, 2010 / Sadonna / Tournaments
0

The PartyPoker Big Game IV has begun and everyone who is involved with poker or interested in the game are watching how the forty eight hours of nonstop poker action is going to play out. Players came out to their own entrance music to get the game started and then players will be evicted from the game as time passes by.

The entrance music is a new change to the event and it seems to have caught on. Some people got great cheers as they entered their club to their theme music that well suited their name and personalities. Neil Channing even suited up in a karate suit and plans to wear the outfit for the full forty eight hours.

Another new twist is the player evictions, a take from reality television. Players will be evicted every six hours during the game by a blind vote. Players of the game will write down the name of the player they would like to see go and then they show it on their hole card camera. To increase the tension of the vote off, Kara Scott the hostess will narrow down the potential evictees before announcing the player who has been voted off.

The game kicked off with Jennifer Tilly, Isaac Haxton, Dusty Schmidt, Paul Marrow, David Viffer, Luke Schwartz, Neil Channing and Laurence Grondin. It was top pro Schmidt who found himself the first player voted off of the poker table. Schmidt was down 11,000 when the first vote came around and he was voted for by the majority.

It makes sense that the player to be voted out would be one who is a threat or a tight player but in this case, Schmidt was voted out because he was not talking enough to make good television or entertain the other players.

Schmidt got four votes to be ousted from the game and the kicker was that two of the votes just said Seat 2, as they did not even know his name. So Schmidt may have only been on the show for six hours but he did well for himself and with the new rules somebody has to go home and he was just the first. Schmidt hadn’t played in any live cash games before so he was probably over thinking his moves instead of just enjoying the game. Neil Channing got votes as well to be eliminated but his presence at the poker table is interesting so it saved him this time.

The event is definitely interesting and the cast of characters makes the game very interesting. It will be exciting to see who the next player eliminated will be and who will take their place. It is going to be a long two days for those involved in the competition and Channing and David Viffer want to make it the whole forty eight hours which will definitely be a difficult feat.
