Online Poker Tips

Poker Tip # 1: Start out playing a game you are familiar with.
For new online poker players, it is better to just focus on learning how to play online at the beginning. This way you can get use to the poker software and get comfortable.

Poker Tip # 2: Pick one poker game and master it.
Usually people like to try out all sorts of poker games which results in very little strategy being formed. Adjust to a specific poker game and develop advanced strategy one game at a time.

Poker Tip # 3: Work with a budget.
The first thing to do is set your playing budget (bankroll) and you need to stay within that limit.

Poker Tip # 4: There’s no point in playing lots of hands
Playing many hands is like a confession ‘bout you being a beginner, this gives more advanced players the chance to figure out the type of hands you usually play and your strategy. You need to learn how to fold when you have a bad hand, you might want to push the limits sometimes but don’t make that your favorite move.

Poker Tip #5: Remeber that players will call you more in Internet poker
There's some psychology and usability aspects in this statement. On the usability level, it's much easier for a player to click on a 'Call' button as opposed to reaching into their stack, counting up their chips and putting them on the table.

Poker Tip #6: Pay real attention to other player’s moves
Do not just focus on your game. Be aware of others and this way you can improve your game by learning form their mistakes or imitating some of their moves.

Poker Tip #7: Ignore internet poker nicknames
Both good players and bad players will pick names like "ALL-RIVER" or "ALWAYSBLUFFIN" so you can't assume this person really is a river rat or a strong player trying to fool you. Don’t fall for it that easy, but be careful.

Poker Tip #8: Don’t be afraid of taking a break
If you're having a bad time at the tables, take a break.

Poker Tip #9: Try to make careful and responsible bets.
Betting is an integral part of gambling, if you are afraid doing bets then avoid gambling. Do not gamble when you are intoxicated. This will lower you judgment power. Do not gamble when you are not physically felling well. Do not try to recover your losses by increasing bets. In a winning position do not become greedy. You can just loose what you had won.

Poker Tip #10: Don't be tricky in low-limit online poker
Usually, you can't even be that tricky in a 3/6 game in real life, but with internet poker, it's almost worthless to try and be creative in any of the low-limit tables. Up against an entire field of opponents who are willing to call you down, bluffing and other methods of deception will go right over the heads of your opponents.

Poker Tip #11: Don’t anticipate winning every time or you’ll be disappointed.
It is inevitable that you will lose at some sessions of poker. Just concentrate on playing your best so you can give yourself the chance to be fortunate enough to be a long-term poker winner.

Poker Tip #12: Have fun!
Although it is possible for you to win big money all the time through online poker, you should first and foremost be having a great time playing.

Poker Tip #13: Practice, practice, practice.
Like anything else, the best way to learn is by doing. Start out playing low-stakes or free games to hone your skills. Note your mistakes and learn from it.
